The Book of the Wars of the Lord
Something very strange happened this morning that I can only say was directed by the Lord. I was searching in the small concordance in the back of my New American Standard Bible for a scripture that says our war is not with flesh and blood but with something more. I could not find what I was looking for, but my eyes fell upon these words: “WARS OF THE LORD, BOOK OF.” This directed me to Numbers 21:14. I began searching more about what this book could be and found that this place in the Old Testament is the only reference to the existence of a book called “The Book of the Wars of the Lord.” This book has been lost; archaeology has not yet uncovered it.
Led to a Lost Book
As I looked around on the internet about this book, I read a comment on one of the websites. The commenter said that the book was on Amazon. I thought, “How can a book that has been lost for centuries now show up on Amazon?” I was skeptical, but I fired up my Kindle and searched for the book. Sure enough, there was a book called “The Book of the Wars of the Lord” by Derek Shaver.
I know that this book is not the same book mentioned in the Bible, but I feel the Lord has led me to it for a reason. You can borrow this book if you subscribe to Kindle books, which I first did, but as I started reading it, I decided to go ahead and buy it.
The author, Derek Shaver, much like myself, has had unique life experiences that we believe are the Lord’s work for a purpose. I see things unfolding before me that I can truthfully say only God’s chosen can believe. Something big is coming that will usher in our Lord Jesus. Jesus is coming soon! GOD WILL ACCOMPLISH IT.
7/13/16 — The Verse I Was Looking For
Thank you, Derek. That was the verse I was looking for.
Ephesians 6:12 (NASB)
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
It seemed appropriate to include the verses that surround this passage, because they reveal how we are to stand in this spiritual war.
Ephesians 6:10–19 (NASB) — The Armor of God
Paul urges us to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might, to put on the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against the schemes of the devil. He reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, powers, world forces of darkness, and spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, we are to take up the full armor of God — truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God — and to pray at all times in the Spirit with perseverance for all the saints.
Closing Reflection
This morning’s experience reminded me that the Lord can use even a lost reference in Scripture to lead us into deeper truth. Our battle is not against people, but against unseen forces. The Lord is calling us to stand firm, to put on His armor, and to trust that He will accomplish His purposes in His time.
Closing Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for guiding our steps, even through small moments of searching and curiosity.
Open our eyes to see the true nature of the battle we face — not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness.
Clothe us in Your armor: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God.
Strengthen us to stand firm, to pray with perseverance, and to trust that You will accomplish all that You have promised.
In the name of Yeshua Jesus, our Lord and Savior — Amen.
