Exorcism

Using exorcism to cast out demons is not the same as what Yeshua Jesus did and what the disciples did. It is because of who Jesus is, the Son of the Living God. He cast them out just with His word. When the disciples cast out demons, they used the words "in the name of Jesus". The words themselves do not have the power. It is actually the relationship to Jesus; Him living within, where that power comes from.

Acts 19:11-20Common English Bible (CEB)

11 God was doing unusual miracles through Paul. 12 Even the small towels and aprons that had touched his skin were taken to the sick, and their diseases were cured and the evil spirits left them.
13 There were some Jews who traveled around throwing out evil spirits. They tried to use the power of the name of the Lord Jesus against some people with evil spirits. They said, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you!” 14 The seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.
15 The evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus and I’m familiar with Paul, but who are you?” 16 The person who had an evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all with such force that they ran out of that house naked and wounded. 17 This became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus. Everyone was seized with fear and they held the name of the Lord Jesus in the highest regard.
18 Many of those who had come to believe came, confessing their past practices. 19 This included a number of people who practiced sorcery. They collected their sorcery texts and burned them publicly. The value of those materials was calculated at more than someone might make if they worked for one hundred sixty-five years.[a] 20 In this way the Lord’s word grew abundantly and strengthened powerfully.

How often have we heard in the news about someone committing some evil act? When they interview people closest to them, we would so often hear them say that the person who did the evil act was not the person they knew. What changed them? Could it be Satan's power or a demon entering into them? The Bible doesn't tell us how a person becomes demon possessed. One thing that the Bible is very clear about is that the demons knows who Jesus is. They fear Him and they obey Him. I do not remember any place in the Bible where Jesus threatens the demon in order to make him come out of that person. He simple says "come out" and they obey.

Being a child of God, with Jesus living within us is the only way to keep demons out, thwart Satan's power, or get demons to leave those who are demon possessed. Jesus does so much more for us than that. He paid for our sins so we can be forgiven. This is what gives us that unbelievable joy that day we repent and ask Jesus into our lives. He enables us to love, to forgive others, and seek for peace with everyone. Jesus is the prince of peace. Jesus is our one and only teacher, teaching us about God's kingdom. Oh, if everyone could come to know Jesus. This is my prayer.
