Is It Right To Abuse Our Planet Earth?

Is it right to abuse our Planet Earth? Is it good to abuse it?

One of my Facebook friends recently took a missionary trip to Honduras. He described what he saw as they went across a bridge that spanned one of the rivers. As he looked down at the river, it was filled with trash, lots of it. There was so much trash that he could barely see the water. I have read of other countries around the world with the same thing happening; trash everywhere. It is polluting their water sources. This happens all the time in areas of poverty.

I know that there are monstrous amounts of garbage congregating in areas of the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. Look up The Great Pacific garbage patch. It is estimated to be twice the size of Texas and growing rapidly. The same thing is in the Atlantic ocean.

Think about all the things we do that pollute. Strip mining, drilling, manufacturing, poisons to get rid of perceived pests, oil and gas processing, plastics, transportation, even farming and raising domestic animals can pollute. There are so many things when you really think about it.

I’ve been following the scientific discoveries of the planet Mars exploration rovers. From the discoveries they've made, there is evidence that Mars once had oceans, lakes, and rivers. There are areas of the planet that still have frozen water, but most of the surface water is gone. Could Mars have once supported life? Maybe even humans once lived on the planet. Maybe they abused their planet to the point that it became what we see today.

Have you ever thought about what keeps the water on Earth from escaping into outer space? I have read that there is an atmospheric layer that surrounds Earth that does that. It keeps the water from escaping into the vacuum of outer space. I have also read some about that layer being depleted. I don’t know how fast or how much that is happening but it is something to think about. I think that it would be good to find out more about it and if there is something we can do to reverse the process. Could Earth become like Mars? I kind of think that it could if we humans don’t come together, quit doing the things that abuse the planet, and find ways to reverse the destructive process.

All of the developed countries of the world spend massive amounts of money to develop weapons that destroy, each country trying to outdo the others. What a waste. We are so afraid of each other that we think that our weapons will save us when things are happening to our planet that will destroy us if we ignore what is happening.

We keep asking God to fix things. Why would God want to continue helping us when we keep doing the things that work against us?

The following are some things we can do to help reverse our destructive ways:

Forgiving Each Other - Part 1

This has been on my mind lately so want to talk about it; forgiving others. I don’t remember hearing sermons on the subject.

Matthew6:5-15 The Sermon on the Mount: How to Pray

Matthew6:12 Lexham English Bible

12 and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors

14 For if you forgive people their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive people, neither will your Father forgive your sins.

Ephesians4:32 Lexham English Bible

32 Become kind toward one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ has forgiven you.

I am going to talk about this in spurts so you may want to check back periodically and see if any new additions or changes have happened.

Why must we forgive? For some people it is extremely too painful to forgive someone. But still, God wants us to ---- WHY?

I believe that there are several reasons but I think that the biggest reason is for self.

Let me try to explain this through a story, a true story. Something that is going on with my body now; another body analogy. It is something that is gross and disgusting but I think you will understand how it relates.

Back in August I was experiencing pains in my butt. It was painful sitting, going to the bathroom, even painful sleeping. I thought I had hemorrhoids and was doctoring myself with various over-the-counter stuff and home remedies. Nothing was helping and when a large painful area started expanding outward fairly quickly, I decided it was time to go to the ER. They did a CT scan of the lower half of my body, and found a very large abscess that was full of pus, it had become infected. I was already running some fever so they thought it best to do emergency surgery to drain the pus and put me on antibiotics to help prevent sepsis. The surgery went reasonably well removing some very foul smelling stuff. They also installed a tube to keep it draining for about a week.

So, how does this story relate to forgiving others? When we don’t forgive then we hate. Just like my abscess, hate festers and changes us into angry unloving people capable of doing evil. It inhibits our ability to love as Jesus commanded us; Love Father God with our whole being and love our neighbor.

Just like how I had to go to the ER and a doctor had to diagnose the problem and start the healing process, Jesus does the same for us when we have problems in forgiving others. Jesus helps us to see clearer why we hate instead of forgive and He helps us heal, find peace, and start to love again from the heart.

It is not easy to forgive but the more I dig into this subject, the more that I am finding out that God is pretty emphatic about us forgiving and that there are consequences for not doing so.

Christians, take heed!

Matthew18:32-35 Lexham English Bible

32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘Wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you implored me! 33 Should you not also have shown mercy to your fellow slave as I also showed mercy to you?’ 34 And because he was angry, his master handed him over to the merciless jailers until he would repay everything that was owed. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from your hearts!”

This shoots a hole in that belief of 'Once Saved Always Saved', doesn't it?

I found the following website that is very helpful on forgiving others.

'How To Forgive Others'

Matthew6:5-13 Lexham English Bible

The Sermon on the Mount: How to Pray

5 And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, in order that they may be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! 6 But whenever you pray, enter into your inner room and shut your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “But when you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the pagans, for they think that because of their many words they will be heard. 8 Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Therefore you pray in this way:

Our Father who is in heaven,

may your name be treated as holy.

10 May your kingdom come,

may your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread,

12 and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And do not bring us into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.
