Entering His Reign: The Kingdom, the Father, and the Son

Entering His Reign: The Kingdom, the Father, and the Son

Entering the Kingdom of God is not about waiting for a distant future or checking religious boxes. In John 17, Yeshua Jesus lifts His eyes to heaven and speaks of the glory He shared with the Father before the world existed, the people the Father gave Him, and the authority granted to Him over all flesh. This authority establishes a present reality: the domain and rule of God breaking into our lives right now.

1. The Heart of the Kingdom

Yeshua defines the very core of this dynamic by pointing directly to relationship: "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). He speaks of a completed work and a shared glory before creation (John 17:4–5). These words reveal relationship, not religion—a life rooted in living under the direct rule and fellowship of God.

2. What God Delights In

Jeremiah writes that we should not boast in wisdom, strength, or riches, but in understanding and knowing the Lord—the One who delights in lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness (Jeremiah 9:23–24). God’s heart is relational, and His Kingdom operates entirely on His character. He rules through righteousness and loves to be known.

3. Truth, Belief, and Reality

Imagine a friend telling you a huge tree fell near a pond in the forest. You can believe him, question him, or check for yourself. But if the tree truly fell, your belief or unbelief doesn’t change reality. Truth stands whether we accept it or not.

This simple picture shows how many of us struggle with faith. We sometimes think belief itself creates reality—that if we “believe hard enough,” something must happen. But truth is not created by belief. As Yeshua notes, His word is truth (John 17:17); it is revealed, and we respond to the King's reality.

4. Faith vs. “Believing Hard Enough”

Some Scriptures seem to suggest that strong belief guarantees results, but taken alone, this can make faith feel like a force we must generate. That removes God from the picture and places the burden on us. Faith is trust in the King's character, not pressure to produce outcomes.

Scripture reminds us that true faith is anchored in the trustworthiness of God rather than the might of our own conviction ("Have faith in God," Mark 11:22). Dr. Kent Brantly, an early Ebola survivor, was once asked if his strong faith saved him. He hesitated, then simply affirmed his belief in God and in Yeshua. His answer wasn’t about the strength of his faith — it was about the One he trusted.

5. The Garden and the Meaning of Death

In Genesis, God warned Adam that eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would bring death "in that day" (Genesis 2:17). Adam and Eve continued breathing, but something deeper died—their allegiance and intimacy with their Creator. Rebellion severed them from His rule. Entering the Kingdom restores what was lost: stepping back under the loving dominion of God through reconciliation (Romans 5:10).

6. Hearing His Voice Today

Yeshua Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20). Psalm 95 urges us not to harden our hearts when we hear His voice (Psalm 95:7–8). Entering the Kingdom begins with hearing, opening, and yielding to His voice.

7. Where Eternal Life and the Kingdom Meet

Eternal life is the quality of life we experience when we enter the Kingdom. It is not just a future ticket to heaven; it begins the moment we surrender to His reign. As Jesus explained, whoever hears His word and believes has present-tense eternal life (John 5:24). The Father draws, the Son reveals, and the Spirit awakens. We respond by opening the door, listening, trusting, and walking in alignment with Him. That active, daily relationship is the Kingdom breaking into our present.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for revealing Your Kingdom through Your Son. Thank You for drawing us, awakening us, and inviting us out of rebellion and into Your reign. Teach us to hear Your voice, to trust Your heart, and to live out the eternal reality of Your Kingdom today. In Yeshua’s name, amen.
