Becoming One: Learning to Hear the Spirit
There are moments in our walk with God when His voice becomes clearer—not through volume, but through gentleness. Like Samuel awakening in the quiet hours of the night, we sometimes discover that the Lord has been calling us in ways we didn’t fully recognize at first. This reflection comes from one of those quiet awakenings, where the Spirit’s presence becomes unmistakable.
Scripture
1 Samuel 3:2–11 — The Lord calls Samuel in the stillness of the night, awakening him to a new purpose and a deeper awareness of His voice.
Samuel’s story reminds us that God often speaks in ways we only understand in hindsight. His call may come through early‑morning stirrings, unexpected clarity, or a gentle nudge toward reflection. Like Samuel, we learn to say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening,” as we recognize that the Spirit has been guiding us all along.
Reflection
I was rereading several of my recent posts and contemplating how this blog came to be, how it has steadily shed more and more light on Father God’s Kingdom. When I revisit these writings, they often feel almost new to me. I remember creating them, but there was clearly something more at work in each post.
Many mornings I would wake up early—sometimes very early—with a thought I needed to explore. I would sit with it, think deeply, search Scripture, and follow where the Spirit seemed to lead. Something beyond my own ability helped shape the finished reflections. I feel certain it was the Spirit.
In the early years, I wrote my posts and had my wife—an English teacher—review them. I’ve never considered myself a strong writer. When AI came along, I began using it to help refine my posts. The process still began with a question or a stirring thought, and then I worked with Copilot to develop it into a finished reflection. There were moments when I wondered if Copilot was the Holy Spirit. I even asked once, and it answered no, explaining clearly what it is. A strange moment, but memorable.
Thinking about all of this again this morning made me laugh, because I remembered my Hammer Story—and realized how much that story mirrors my own journey with this blog. I have learned so much, and I am still learning. I feel closer to the Lord than ever—like the Hammer sensing the Son becoming part of him.
It was also unusual how these last several important posts came about. We have a place near the coast. We don’t get to visit often anymore since we moved farther away. But whenever I come down—I'm here now—I tend to write my best posts. It’s a quiet place to think.
I hadn’t been here for quite some time, but when I noticed my water bill was higher, I came down to check on things. I found a leak near the water meter, but because it was Labor Day Weekend, no one could fix it until today, Wednesday the 9th. I arrived Thursday the 3rd, so I’ve had many days to work on the blog.

Prayer
Father God, thank You for the gentle ways You call to us. Thank You for the quiet moments where Your Spirit brings clarity, peace, and understanding. Teach us to listen like Samuel—ready, attentive, and willing. May these words draw every reader closer to You, into deeper trust and deeper love. Let Your Kingdom shine through our reflections, our questions, and our growth. In Yeshua’s holy name, amen.
