The Lord’s Protection Through the Storms
The Lord’s Protection Through the Storms
Reflections on Hurricane Harvey, compassion in crisis, and trusting God’s plan.
In my previous post, Jesus , I shared how I’ve learned to trust the Lord in all things and how I received salvation when I accepted Yeshua—Jesus—into my life. I’ve mentioned before that I live in the Houston, Texas area, and if you’ve followed the news, you’ve seen the destructive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Once again, the Lord protected us. We did not get water in our home, though many in our neighborhood did. I don’t know why we were spared. We’ve lived here nearly 30 years and have never flooded, and even during Hurricane Ike we received only very minor damage.

We are fortunate to have two properties. Our second home is a little over an hour away, closer to the coast, and that area was also hit hard by Harvey. For about a week we didn’t know whether that house had flooded because the roads were impassable. When we were finally able to get down there, we found that it too had remained dry.
During Hurricane Ike, that property also received only minor damage. Had Ike come in as originally predicted, both homes would likely have been destroyed because they would have been on the dirty side of the storm. But the path shifted east, placing us on the clean side. Because both homes were spared in both storms, we were able to let families stay in the coastal house—people who needed a place at exactly the right time. The Lord worked that out perfectly.
Compassion in Crisis
I’ve been thinking about Jesus during His time on earth—His compassion for people. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, cast out evil spirits, and even raised the dead. He calmed the sea with a word. When we become one with Christ Jesus, He continues His compassionate work through us today. Through this storm, I’ve witnessed remarkable acts of kindness from many people, and God is receiving the glory.
Trusting God’s Plan
There is something else happening that troubles many—the possibility of nuclear conflict. I don’t know what will happen with North Korea. I’ll be honest: it concerns me when I think about it. But I am not stressed or overwhelmed. I trust that the Lord will accomplish His will in this as well. God has a plan—to bring all things into Himself, God being all in all. He will accomplish it.
