The Future of Our Planet Earth
Intro
Before the 2024 election, I carried a deep heaviness about the direction of our nation and the world. Looking back now, I see that what I was really wrestling with was not politics, but the spiritual condition of humanity and the urgency of discernment in the times we live in.
In the months leading up to the 2024 United States presidential election, I found myself imagining two very different futures. My thoughts were shaped by fear on one side and hope on the other, but beneath both was a longing for God’s guidance.
At that time, I feared that our nation could drift toward division, authoritarianism, and a hardening of hearts. The rhetoric, the anger, and the willingness of some to embrace harshness reminded me of painful chapters in history. I worried about the possibility of leaders consolidating power, silencing dissent, and shaping society in ways that could harm both people and the planet. Those concerns were real to me then, and they reflected the spiritual tension I felt in the world around me.
But I also saw something else during that season — something that gave me hope. At certain gatherings and moments, I witnessed people from many backgrounds standing together with a desire for unity, compassion, and care for creation. I saw Native Americans, whose reverence for the land runs deep. I saw people from cultures long overlooked or marginalized. I saw individuals who genuinely wanted to protect the earth and care for one another.
In those moments, I sensed the Holy Spirit stirring hearts, reminding us that God can work through anyone who seeks peace, justice, and stewardship of His creation.
Looking back now, I realize that my fears and hopes were not really about candidates. They were about the spiritual crossroads humanity faces. We can choose the path of pride, division, and destruction — or we can choose the path of humility, unity, and care for God’s world. Elections come and go, but the call to discern the times remains.
Closing
What I felt then still matters now: God is inviting His people to stay awake, to listen, and to walk in the Spirit. No matter who holds earthly power, the Kingdom of God is still advancing — not through politics, but through transformed hearts. May we continue to seek His guidance as we navigate the days ahead.
