Unity Series — When Nations Rage, God Still Leads His People
When the nations rage and wars drag on year after year, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, confused, or even numb. Yet Scripture reminds us that God has always led His people through impossible situations, and that His Kingdom remains unshaken even when the kingdoms of this world collide.

This morning my mind went to the war that began when Putin’s Russia invaded the smaller nation of Ukraine. I can only imagine the fear the Ukrainian people must have felt. They were suddenly facing a powerful military force with overwhelming weapons and resources.
As I watched the news, my thoughts went back to another moment in history — one recorded in Scripture (Read the story⇾ Exodus 14). God brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt; He led them straight to the edge of the sea with nowhere to go. Behind them, the Egyptian army was closing in, ready to kill them or drag them back into bondage.
Yet God intervened. He held back the Egyptians. He parted the waters. He dried the sea floor so His people could cross safely. And when the Egyptians pursued them into the miracle, God caused the ground beneath them to turn to mud, slowing them until the Israelites were safe. Then the waters returned, and the threat was gone.
The Israelites were terrified through all of this. They had never seen such things. I imagine my own heart would have been pounding if I had been there.
In those early days of the Ukraine war, stories began to circulate — accounts of soldiers sensing invisible guidance, moments where they seemed hidden from the enemy, and leaders who remained alive despite being targeted. Whether every story was accurate or not, the theme was familiar: God’s unseen hand at work in the middle of human fear.
A missionary in Ukraine wrote of similar things — small mercies, unexpected protections, and moments that felt like miracles.

I continued watching the news. The situation looked grim for Ukraine, yet Russia was not advancing as quickly as expected. Millions fled the country. Casualties mounted on both sides. No one but God knew how it would end.

I debated whether I should write about any of this. Part of me longed to see miracles like those in Exodus. Another part of me struggled to believe such things could still happen today.
But why should it be hard to believe? God is alive. God has not changed. His power has not diminished. So I wrote anyway, wondering if one day I might look back and see that God had been doing more than any of us realized.

Now the war is entering its sixth year. The Ukrainian people continue to amaze me. They endure constant drone strikes and missile attacks. They live through harsh conditions, yet somehow remain resilient. I’ve seen videos of them holding concerts in the dark, gathering together while explosions echo overhead, comforting children, supporting one another, and continuing to trust God for each day.
Reports now show Ukrainian soldiers reclaiming territory once taken from them. Their drones have accomplished things no one expected — even striking a fortified oil refinery near Moscow, just nine miles from the Kremlin.
I still wish for the war to end. Wars are terrible. They reveal the brokenness of the kingdoms of this world — kingdoms built on pride, power, and fear. But they also reveal something else: the unshakable Kingdom of God.
A Kingdom where people are not enemies. A Kingdom where repentance opens the door to forgiveness. A Kingdom where we learn who we truly are. A Kingdom where we become one.
When nations rage and history feels like it is repeating itself, we are invited to lift our eyes above the noise and remember whose Kingdom we belong to. The wars of this world will one day cease, but the reign of our Father will not. In that Kingdom, every wall comes down, every wound is healed, and every enemy can become a brother or sister through the mercy of Yeshua.
So I keep praying — for Ukraine, for Russia, for every nation, and for every heart: that we would see ourselves clearly, turn to the Father, receive the forgiveness He offers through His Son, Yeshua, and enter His Kingdom — the only Kingdom that cannot be shaken — and become one.
Prayer:
Father God, when the nations rage and wars seem endless, remind us that You are still on the throne. Open our eyes to see Your hand at work, even in the darkest places. Comfort those who suffer, protect the innocent, and soften the hearts of leaders and soldiers on every side.
Teach us to live as citizens of Your Kingdom, not driven by fear or hatred, but by love, humility, and truth. Draw many to repentance, to the forgiveness You offer through Your Son, Yeshua, and to the unity that only Your Spirit can create. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven — in Ukraine, in Russia, and in every nation. In Yeshua’s name, amen.
